TV brings you the news and other updates faster than books. You can know all the happenings a few mins by sitting before the TV.But there is always some pleasure in reading books.TV can be a good stressbuster after hrs of study but there is only a thin line of distinction b/wn a stressbuster and addiction. In recent times, you have to very careful about the selection of channels in TV.But books give a different feel about the story. You can enjoy a particular language only by reading.Even in this internet era,the best friend to share the morning coffee is the newspaper and nobody can beat it.
My vote would be for the books.

yes in many terms but no also in terms of effect on societal structure or culture or living.yes t.v gives you current and quick information compared to books. but books gives you a concrete knowledge. it is always personal discretion to things to watch and read .but if this would be the case then why do newspapers circulation are increasing day by day.everything around you wants to teach but it depends on the person wat he absorves and wat he rejects .every coin has two sides and that two sides can never be compared in general.t.v and books are two genre and we cannot compare it as things having same properties.

Telly is a faster, concise presentation of current knowledge ( depending on the channel, my personal favs are NGC, Discovery et al ). Books are good as novels, as resource materials for data that might not be available online. Books make excellent companions to television. You watch television first for ideas and then look up books for more knowledge on that subject. Its simple. A broad definition of books includes webpages too.

Television isn't only for children but also for the father, mother and teenage children. The whole family could even watch a movie together. The family could have fun, bond together and learn at the same time... plus its more entertaining.. (moving pictures and sounds.... you don't have to know how to read)

Hi ,
I am a newbie
My first post.
I believe Television & books are two different entities & both are equally important in the modern world.
Television is an entertainment come information provider while books make you think & joy of language .
I personally prefer books since it makes of feel calm & you can have ample time to relate.
But saying that certain aspects like wildlife, news & games cannot be provided by books.
Hence ,
From my point of view these are not comparable entitites

books no doubt give you knowledge but tv is a faster means to gain current info and accurate one at that. but books can b reffered back to so i guess it is usefull if u requirre reffering back to any stuff. i guss both have their own advantages and disadvantages.

well, i believe most of the people watch TV for entertainment rather than knowledge. In TV visual things are not static means you can only see the things which are telecasted on particular channel and on particular time, but in books you can read whenever you wants .
so my vote goes for books.

Books have a better impact as it invokes thought process, the individual is moulded to think and derive conclusions on its own and in an un briddled manner.
TV on other hand could be at times a mere potrayal of presentor's understanding in their own way of presentation. This might create a biased /influenced opinion of topic in viewer's mind.

Definitely it is books...that is if you are talking about right learning. You see, tv has become a "stranger" type of media -- a very commercialized of type of media whose sole existence is to prod wares not learning. Although, tv is already part and parcel of our lives and youngsters are really drawn into its power, sadly.
I go for books though I also love tv.

for sure, watever u read in books is outdated and you can have much more advanced knowledge on TV channels

According to me, both the sources are at their own places. Yes, at some extend TV do provide the knowledge, information quicker. But books include deep information. But I think, reading books is any time preferable and advisible. And ultimately it all depends on which kind of information you need. So, TV can be a better option than books but not always.

it has got to be T.V
when u read books most of the times u get bored.......
even if u read the entire book it is hard to remember everything...
on the other hand
T.V requires no speacial effort to do
plus things r made so attractive that u neva 4get them
and then there are so many informative channels
History channel, geographic channel, Dis-khabri channel , animal planet
just tell me if u want to switch from1 book to another how much time will it take
T.V is the best way to provide information
though u have to await for that special programme u need

A single medium cannot be described as the best one, and here while comparing books and TV we can't say that any one of this can score above the other. TV brings us a bouquet of diversified topics together in a comparatively short span of time, but sometimes it doesn't give viewer an opportunity to learn by analysing - as most of the time the anchors are doing this for them!

these are two medium of gaining and shareing knowledge. each one has its advantage as well as disadvantage. in case of TV you remember things for the long time where as in case of book you can refer to any article or any news at any time.
so they are best at their own ways hence comparing these two thing is not justified .

no, i strongly disagree with the notion that TV is abetter source of knowledge compared to books(print media).TV might be aq quick source of knowledge, but not a better.
points to support my view are:-
1) doesn't improve ur VOCAB.
2) doesn't provide details to the depth, and some CHANNELS these days, try to add masala to news and all to increase sales.
3) doen't healp to increase reading speed, on the other hand PRINT media not inly improves reading skill/speed, but also improves ur grammer.
4) medically not so good for health, eyes especially.

Its not that television is better then book both has its own importance. Today television is also the part of studies none of the parents can say that only books are important. A student who want to make its carrier in advertising its important for him to continuously be in touch of T.V so see wht all new products Ads are coming. Even then also it makes the student aware abt wht is happening within his own country & in other country bcoz now its imp. to have not only global knowledge or local knowledge but the glocal knowledge.

Books and TV both bring information to Us. A wise man will know to use any tool available to Him/ Her effectively. So, the better use of any tool purely depends on an Individual. A person can always use a Bhagavad Gita in his / her Fireplace. Anyone can always get a copy of a porn book. Also, a TV can be used to watch News, and Other informations important for him / her. Also can be used to watch any filthy things.. Depends purely on an Individual.

To Some extent i agree that TV has an edge over Books. This is because visual images have quicker and long lasting impact on our perceptiona and understanding. On the other hand, excessive use of TV Could lead to poor concentration while reading books enhance ones imaginative skills and also improves concentration.

Hey!
Television and Books have only one thing in common of imparting knowledge.
Television scores more in gaining quick and clear knowledge with the help of visual images and attractive presentation.
You never get bored watching T.V.[compared to books]
But BOOKS are entirely different way of gaining knowledge.
Books can be read anywhere, anytime without electricity and it is handy and it needs no efforts.
In this age of power-cuts, I find books are better than TV not in respect of quick information but in respect of gaining knowledge.
By reading books, You acquire reading skills and master the language.
Television is more attractive but provides no deep meaning of the information.
Its just the highlights of the topic.
Nyways I believe BOOKS ARE MUCH BETTER THAN TELEVISION.

television and books are incomparable. both of them have their pros and cons and it entirely depends on personal interest , requirement and suitability. for eg aft a stressful day at job who wud want to switchover to books unless u r a book worm. speaking abt tv it gives u knowledge, information and entertainment by jus controlling d remote. u ve got news, music, exercise, yoga, daily soaps, reality shows , films, wildlife, religion oriented shows and so much. on the other hand reading books (fiction +nonfiction) would give you immense knowledge about that particular topic, authors viewpoint, semantics of the language and the thrill of imagination wic u wud not obviously ve while watching tv.

Sometimes books are so so much better than tv, you can really get engrossed in them and there's such a lot to gain from them. On the other hand sometimes tv can be better by a mile. As afforementioned its about finding the happy medium, they both have things to offer the other doesn't too many watch tv exclusively though.

like to read books because they give you room to imprint your own imagination onto the chasis of the book; the acting and direction cannot be criticised since it is done entirely in your own head according to your own, indvidual preferences.
that said, reading books is more challenging than watching tv and, after a hard day, i'd much rather sit down and watch some tv than continue to stress myself.

u always need to read a book (manual) to operate the idiot box.
theres also an other aspect to it, u need some practical knowledge which is somewat achieved through tv after all
so blend of both the worlds will get you high in life as the philosophy goes for cocktails.

TV is the media where we can update ourself faster than any other media..
moreover for the management students this type medias will help a lot in many ways..

Since the opinion may differ from person to person, I personally believe that an Audio- Visual approach makes a much faster and long lasting impression as a learning stage. For communicative people TV is a mode of learning, observing and implementing. As far as books go, they are a huge medium where the picture is painted with words, the creativity of words, pictures, articles, news is interesting enough to pull people in for hours and days. All in all, I prefer both for different perspectives

Television is more effective and a faster mode of gaining knowledge if we do not get distracted and feel inclined to entertain ourselves . On the other hand if we r in to reading one book then there is hardly any chance of diverting away from the main topic .So t.v is useful if we strictly stick to watching programmes related to academics .

I agree that television gives us a wealth of information which books lack. It is convenient, economical, comfortable, flwxible to watch television and gain knowledge and information rather that with books. I like History channel and get a lot of information about various things by watching it.

Books are better as they are precisely made on the topic where TV programs can be more diverse and differ from the exact topic.

In making choice of book you can be specific and can opt from wide and diverse options available but television with integrated effect of audio and video output wins in providing a better entertainment

books are always better since they can provide vast knowledge on any subject matter. moreover the knowledge content in a single book is too much to b taken into consideration.

Both of them r really gud in their respective fields. Books r gud when we need to have detailed knowledge abt a particular subject while T.V. provides us with the latest news in mins so we r alwayz remain updated in current affairs which very imp. in the business world

It depends on what u r watching on Television... Saas Bahu serials are useless and absolutely time waste........ instead u can use that time to read books to gain knowledge but in context of news and channels like discovery etc. Television is far better than books because of many reasons.......
