i dont think so the reason is that bollywood is not so technological advanced in film technique as compared to hollywood( example jurassic park kingkong etc).

Bollywood is not ready to take on Hollywood.I would blame a part on the Technical aspects. On the other hand the story and creativity ofthe two indsutry can't be compared.Hollywood is able to take a small concept and present it in an amazing sense.Though we have equally qualified ppl in India, still we are nt able to match tht of the Hollywood(itz pathetic :().Of late,I'm atleast able to spot a few movies like Lagaan,TZP,RDB which are better than normal B'wood movies. Moreover,I feel Heroines are mostly used for skinshows in B'wood. There are lot of stories that doesn't require heroines but has it only for the commercial aspects. The good fact abt the B'wood is the comedians are found in most of the films. You don't find tht in H'wood often.

In Bollywood,Story for the hero/heroine.
In Hollywood,Hero for the story.

yes i think bollywood is somewhat the teenager look of hollywood.we need more mature scripts here and stop copyinghollywood stories.well the visualfx has increased alot as well as the production budget.interms of purchasing power parity they are reallly hollywood big projects.but then we need more innovation

RC1327
June 6th, 2008, 09:08 AM
by the way most of the visualfx done in anim and scifi movies are done by indians

c'mon guys, we still have more than a decade to ramble before Bollywood reaches the category of Hollywood.............i am not being a pessimist.....but ultimately we shud accept the truth........Take for eg., LOTR-1,2,3 can actually teach us what an actual fictional hollywood movie is like.........indian movies have a long way to tread in india........

Very true, the COST is the differentiating factor.Even an ordinary hollywood movie's budget is much more than the most expensive of bollywood movies n thus the difference in the quality of te special effects. Also, undoubtedly,English has more global appeal than Hindi n thus hollywood has a mammoth market whereas bollywood has a restricted audience. But having said dat,i think Bollywood can stand on its own n v definitely hv the potential 2 b distinctive. The only thing dat needs 2 change is dat v got 2 stop immitating Hollywood.Instead,v need 2 enhance the basic attributes by which our movies r identified with....like r social culture, the bollywood songs, the colors, etc. N i think bollywood is evolving well.V hv had some out-of-the-box movies in the last few years thereby stating dat bollywood has started 2 experiment wid ideas, which is the way 2 go.

thats right. both are equally good at their own places designed for entertaining the audiences of the particular area(i am not defending the lacklusture of bollywood) what i am trying to say is whatever will be produced by industrialists will be according to demand supply economics.if masses requires movies like that of bollywood in india and not like that of hollywood then of course nobody will think of producing such a technologically advanced movies.untill and unless one thinks about it one cant innovate something.thats the need of time to change our mindsets.

Bollywood does need to compete. It can create its own segment in the Market.
Look at the number of non big movie countries that compete in Sundance.

I saw a Movie in Sundance From Jordan called "Captain Abu Raed" it was better than any hollywood movie I have seen for a long time. It didn't depend on fancy effects. The cinematography was better than all of the Hollywood movies. And this is the First ever Motion picture for Jordan.

Well, Deepak, no hard feelings but what a co-incidence that the three indian movies you mentioned, which are better than the normal ones are of Aamir Khan's. Moreover, I think that Hollywood also uses female actors for the purpose of skin exposure. And, if you look into their large porno empire then I don't think anyone is more pervert than them.

As far as comedy and songs are concerned, they have also been a part of Hollywood in the classical times (I watched a few when TNT Channel used to broadcast)

In film making, the story is always written first rather than signing a cast for it in the first place. Hollywood/Bollywood follow the same concept. There are always exceptions and they should be least considered while deciding the working of a multi-billion industry.

Lastly, no hard feelings, just an observation.

i think, its still time b4 we can do it..
we have movies on very macro subjects like general love stories or family drama but they go in to the micro aspects of things for eg. i was recently watching movie named Fred Claus, showing what would happen if Santa had a naughty brother; or look pick up any movie, all are focused on general aspects of like which we do not look for..

I would like to say that we still have a long way to go technically in competition to Hollywood but taking no credit away from all the new Bollywood directors, actors and the entire team things are improving and we have immense talent cropping up, with a bright bright future ahead for Indian Cinema.

things which they show in bollywood are not really applicable in real life. if bollywood want to overtake hollywood it has to have realism in films

hi,
i think bollywood.... or just Indian cinema.. has really started to show distinct signs of creativity :D in the past 10 years or so, there have been a few films that were absolutely original in their content... examples... mr & mrs iyer, khosla ka ghosla, mitr my friend...
really thoughtful entertaining, funny movies.

at least content wise if nnot technique wise, indian movies are comming of age in a way. only if these types of movies continue to be made and appreciated, bollywood will be able to create an reputation as good cinema, if not the Baap of Hollywood ;)

ciao...

Is bollywood ready to take on Hollywood????????
No!!
Not in near future for sure.
There can be many reason to support this--
1. Our Movies donot have Universal appeal, we lack innovative story line and experimentaion.
2. We dont have that much budget
3. We lack in professionalism
4. We lack technical know how etc

siranak

v need to be practical enough that bollywood would never be in a position to even match wid hollywood

maverick_playboy
March 25th, 2009, 04:03 PM
jus cos v would never be in position to match with the kind of infrastructure and the technology that they have .....

maverick_playboy
March 25th, 2009, 04:05 PM
and most importantanly v shld not even try to match them jus cos bollywood has its own charm .....

maverick_playboy
March 25th, 2009, 04:06 PM
there are many areas where hollywood lacks bigtime ...... the emotionality factor , the romance , the around the tree songs , impracticality lols

infact hollywood is gud in every aspect .... the animation is being copied or tried out in bollywood but is not been successful cos of the acceptance level of the people

confused21
March 25th, 2009, 06:26 PM
well i seriously dont thnk that bollywood is yet ready to take on hollywood maybe in future but bollywood needs to work on many aspects. It needs mature scripts (nt the stolen ones), better technology and animation.

asmsaggi87
March 25th, 2009, 06:47 PM
no..i don't think so..it takes some time before bollywood can actually make a name or take over from hollywood..because we don't have enough good scripts..and also risk taking abilities are far more less as compared to hollywood producers..we have artists, directors, capital too quite some extent but don't have scripts..still we are copying from hollywood or tollywood...

Hi all,

I do't thnk Bollywood is till ready to take on Hollywood. The reasons are as under:
1. We lack the technical expertise to shoot stunts like the ones in Terminator, Hulk,MI etc.
2. We don't have a macho actor like Mr. Arnold to do solid action stunts.
3. The sex part will always be missing in out Indian movies beacuse of our society.
4. We still make movies with happy endings and most of 'em are roantic flicks which is not the case with Hollywood..

There are many other reasons but those have already been mentioned by others.

Not Really guys.. I disagree.. By just one movie based on bollywood we cant claim to rule the roost.. No doubt in the recent arena.. there is a huge improvement in the kind of movies that have been churned from the Film industry...but theres still a long way to go!

YogeshTheDevil
April 22nd, 2009, 08:53 PM
Well, yes, it is...in fact it has already "taking on" Holywood....winning or not-winning is another matter, but yes, it is.

Apart from As most of the guys mentioned above about scripts, technology, budgets etc...one more which is not present for our BW - a market (of seizable size) - the demand side. Most of our public do want to see the kind of movies which they are alredy getting...and very few dare to go against the prevailing trends. Slight shift in public perception and expectations is visibly going on, however it will definitely take some time to BW to catch up with HW.

shashikiran_m01

I feel the Indian film industry has its own unique style and should be appreciated for the same. If you notice majority of the top budget hollywood movies do not succeed in the Indian market. One school of thought might say we are not educated enough... but maybe they do not match to our tastes... hence it should not be a bother for us if our movies are seen worldwide or not...

I don't think that bollywood is ready to take on hollwood...just for the simple reason that indians especially t one from film industry don't use there brains on the right thing....they have to be more focussed, creative, and balanced in oredr to take on hollywood........

vicky_600
May 6th, 2009, 02:49 PM
whats hollywood...its nothing but making a superhero movie that rescues a girl in the climax...I think bollywood does a better job than Holloywood
Also the kinds of norms and rules that are there differs in both the industries and hence the effect on quality...Plus Those are developed countries and we are developing bugt still a great job....
The bootom line is that with the matter of time Bollywood will evolve to be a more grand affair than Hollywood for sure
