the reason behind this topic is the growing importance of retail markets(vegetable retail market)..these retail shops r replacing vendors...the fact that the retail shop sells the same vegetable at reasonable cost,,,due to this there is growing competition(threat)to roadside vendors who were earning their livlihood are now losing their customers..
can these retail shops replace vendors???

I Dont think they can Change Vendors if Vendors r givin Good Servie & quality Products.

The Best +ve point for Roadside Vendors is tat they r accessible and near ones home reach.
Also nowadays they deliver at ur home and u place order on their cell.
Also they hav started keepin chopped vegetable which is add on service.

Hence their Market share will decrease due to Retail Players But if they change and offer gre8 services then they will survie for sure.

Well according to me vegetable retail market will not replace roadside vendors bcoz....

1} Indian Consumer mentality....its like to buy 1kg of potatoes we r not goin to go daily to subhiksha or ne other retail outlet

2} The outlets are also far away from our societies which makes us reluctant to go to these retail food courts daily....

3} Services are offered by the local mom n pop stores which is practically impossible for retail food court to provide...eg: free home delivery

I have a solution for all the mess created by retailers and mom n pop stores & that is....

1} Bring a few closeby mom n pop store together to supply only specific goods which will be provided by the retail outlet...say for eg: Subhiksha will provide goods to this group of stores and they can sell only those goods.

2} Subhiksha can also utilise the space of the combined 3-4 stores as godown to stock the requirements and these stores can be paid accordingly.

3} Or say Reliance Fresh can give agencies to few local stores to stock all the specific goods only of reliance fresh and sell. This can also include all goods ranging from vegetables to clothing to mobiles etc.

4} In this way the retail outlet can penetrate deep into the market and can create a monopoly in an area by bringing together 3-4 stores and both the retailers and mom n pop stores can survive together.

to some extent yes the grocery retailing will replace the roadside vendors. but here its important to understand that the positioning of the supermarkets is slightly different.their main TG being the middle and upper middle class.this format holds value for those looking for quality at affordable prices in air-conditioned environs. however for people looking for door-step service, the roadside or mobile vegetable vendors still hold considerable value. they will still be around for covering up localized and immediate requirements of consumers. when it comes to bulk purchases, supermarkets will take the lead...

If we supply chain system of agro industry, we found price of 1 kg potato is 6 Rs. Tomato is at 2 Rs and retail prices are 12-13 and 6-7 accordingly. In the competition between reatil players for procuer vegetables they will pay more to farmers and they will deliver fresh veg at lowest price it is win-win situation for Farmers and Customers, So, they will surviev definetly, Even 35%sales come from Grosary only in retail.

Well according to me, the large retailer can't replace the roadside vendors. The large retailers can cause a dent to the profits to the kiosks. Its always a different shopping experience buying vegetables in large stores. So people will flock to the large retailers to enjoy the expericence. So, this will affect the balance sheets of small vendors. But small vendors will come into play if people is in need of smeting in a short time. They will buy the items from the nearby shops and that with the home delivery. Moreover,if theresn't much price difference b/w the small and large retailers they will go the shops which is near to the home.

The large walmart kinda shopping experience will take atleast 5 yrs to get kick-started in India.

roadside vendors will be repalced by vegetable retail market,as due to change in the life style of people and also the buying patterns. No one has time to go to a vegetable vendor and then bargain for the vegetable that is available at some high cost. (sometimes)
Also in a vegetable retail market consumers get the benefits of choosing the vegetables at an instant and come quickly within 15-20 minutes.
also as nowadays as creditcards are also introduced with the help of that retail market gives additional value to the customers.
