Is 20-20 the new face of cricket?

Twenty overs, berserk batting, a kitty full of 413 runs in three hours flat, glam cheerleaders -- for cricket fanatics, Tuesday signaled the arrival of instant cricket. Known as the Twenty20 World Cup, the cricketing fest at Johannesburg is supposed to herald new beginnings as the gentleman's game becomes tighter, racier and more gripping. Promised to give a nail-biting finish more edgy than the regular ODI, this instant form of cricket also means more matches and more visibility for players. However, for traditional cricketing buffs, this means the end of good old ODIs that spanned over 50 overs and ensured a fulfilling cricketing experience of five to six hours on field and longer off it. And let us not forget that the regular ODI has only just managed to shake off the tag of "pretender" in the eyes of the more conservative, for who nothing short of five days of play can be true competitive international cricket. And they will no doubt ask: what next? Book cricket? Is Twenty20 a mere fad, or is it here to stay as the form of the game that will endure the onslaught of a shorter public recall and the need for the instant? Is 20-20 going to be the new face of cricket?

u knw first it ws test cricket all abt class, style, patience n longevity...bt also smtimes boring n all tht..

thn came one day match..all over in one day...bt tht too started becoming so n so with no more sponsors...


companies today want more eyeballs...more marketing...more money...all abt theory of innovation of profit...all of u knw...create new things..maximize profit n move on to next big thing

so i feel its innovative marketing strategy...of course it will stay for sm time..bt someday it will give way to smthng more creative..i personally hv plans for some..bt nt disclosing as planning fr copyright...h a ha ha ha

T20 is a new form of old game which is tailored for the people who dunt want to spend hrs together b4 the idiot box.Moreover,if you look at all the games,they will end well before 5 hrs.cricket is the only game to be played for 5 days time.So people(nt in India) are nt willing to spend tht time in watching a match.so sponsors are miniscule for test cricket.For oneday where you have got 50 overs to do whatever you want.Recently ended worldcup was too tiring to the players where it happnd for almost 45-50 days.But this new form of the game will last hardly for 5-6hrs.Moreover,the game will be int to watch because of the no.of 4s and 6s being hit in the game.So T20 was a sudden hit which is evident from the cost at which the ads are selling for T20.

But considering from the game perspective,T20 is all about smacking the ball.But Test cricket is where a cricket player can show his real calibre.

Well rahul, Heres a Match which everyone is surely gonna see,Its gonna be a kicka$$ match for sure, its like Man Utd vs Chealse kinda Matches. India beat Pak bfre with a Bowl Out , Hope this time we bowl them out bfre a Draw.We all know India has a record of comming into a alot of finals and then blowing it up, but currently the Indian Team looks fired up, Hopes are high, The fan support on the grounds and the nation is tremendous, looks like its really gonna be a One Hell of a Match.

Definitely its the new face of cricket....gone are the days when we were glued to the tv sets for five days,,,then for a day,,,but nw just for 3 hrs....its simply fantastic...lots of energy amongst the players....gutsy...intelligent cricket all round.....music playing at the back....more money....fans,,,,and of course viewership.....

just yday I read an article abt the TRP rating crossing all limits and boundaries...much higher than 5day match,,,ODI,,,n even the recently concluded WC...

simply kudos to ICC for promoting cricket to the non cricket playing nations....

In fact I feel we as a students should learn frm ICC how to promote things in a different manner to the same set of people...

Yes, Dhoni started having problems with his back , i agree on 1 thing that the time duration of 1 day is not sufficient between the games,atleast 2should be given. With regards to the big guns, that was their call, their exact words were that they want to give the young and new players a chance. And by doing so we now see future stars of cricket for India. And if they win tommorow then it wont be soon enough for them to prove themselves.
With regards to injuries, the bodies of different players of different countries cannot be compared. In every sport there is injury or some fatigue, Football for eg. Beckham who is paid millions getz injured and then the club has to suffer his loss.Same way the cricketers have to maintain themselves. There are many ways which i have read and even practised , but they do not follow it. The south african players are made to dive again and again, so that they are used to the fall, and they are taught to avoid any injuries. Our feilding is not up to the mark and can be ranked half way down compared to others.
So basically they have to maintain themselves ,cause after all not everybody gets a chance to play out there, and if you dont want to there are many young cricketers in line.

i donno bout world wide but in india 20-20 will certainly find its flavour.... its a quick form, fast criket, total masti, without blocking more than 4-5 hrs!
now as ppl dont find time to steal a wink this 20-20 pattern would certainly flourish.... v all say its damaging the Bowlers n in turn glamorizing da batsmen... but if u c its a real test is 4 both.....
20-20 is far more entertaining but very short lived.......
yest ODI was seeming sooo long!!! but still u can negate the xcitement of ODIs and TESTs!!!!

well yes 20: 20 is the new face........of cricket and support this by giving you three points..

1. Time - i think it is the main factor....which will enhance nd uplift ...the role of 20 20 in cricket.........in this competing world , whr each nd every one of us are working hard 4 living and taking out 6 to 7 hrs frm daily life is a big deal ( (except if it is an india pak match :P ). But not now ..u can see the whole excitement of a cricket match in just 3 to 4 hrs ......

2. more exciting.- with 20 overs of cricket ....u will see rain of sixes going into the stand.......as it is seen in this world cup ..over 200 sixes

3. non sided match- we had seen major setbacks in this world cup . minnows defeating the top teams...like zim def aus , ban def west ind
so it will not be like prepredicted matches ...whr top teams are expected to win

so it win game of strategy and control ........with a lot of excitement
