-Go green...use recycleble materials, avoid using plastics, use renewable source of energy, better sewrage control.

All these can be done through Technology improvements and particularly through self-awareness

Well lets ask yourself when do we stop living ??? Dont you think so??
As every posiible pollution that has been going on is directly linked to human interfernces and their expolitation of the resources for theier basic needs :
lets get down with each kind of pollutions separately :
1) Air Pollution: caused by air effulents and emissions form thermal power plants, polluted emissions from vehicle , forest fires, airliners emissions etc caused by humans
2) Water pollutions : Waste effulents from industrial untis, sewarages, nuclear waste and etc
3) Air pollutions : Doesn't have much effects on environment expect to we human and animals only .

So i guess we are the root cause of all the pollution so there no stopping it unitl and unless we can adn bring about

a) Awarness in your attitude and change in the lifestyles that we have become so much habituated too..
b) your leader and very coutnry should be aware of the emissions norms and fritufully and cooperativelly wok towards the atttainment of the leeser emissions
c)Non concentional and new techology with polltuon free should be more resarched and developed but considering it to a common man reach
d) plants more trees (Afforestation not deforsettation)
e) LASTLY start by keeping your environment and living place pollution free and being a responsible human aacknowledge the fact if we dont change we are to extint to full extend

good thread --- one thing to remember in the past 2yrs, gov can bail out banks, but if we dont do anything with regards to ensuring our environment is always in good sustainable condition; we will not be able to bail them out! Policies, products, Enforcement with regards to making environmental protection a priority must start.. NOW.

Well rightly said friend your ideas are 100 percent right. At present we are not able to control existing pollution and there are another new types of pollutions are rising. Pollution like
RADIOACTIVE POLLUTION- spreads due to excessive use of radioactive elements.
NUCLEAR POLLUTION- It spreads due to harmful effects of nuclear wastes
SPACE POLLUTION- Due to excessive increase in space program mes space dust is increasing at fast pace which can pose serious threats for us in future
BIO GENETIC CONTAMINATION- Genetic modification of vegetables, fruits and plants for better output and productivity

We have to find out solutions for these new types of pollutions also and for this world community have to come on single stage to combat such pollution and will have to forget boundaries of nations, religions etc.

I believe most ideas on the go green initiatives requires high investments.
And small changes on the individual level requires sometimes a drastic change on the way of life.

These ideas should be somehow incorporated on our daily activities so that we don't notice and pay the extra price of a go green option, and should be applied as a transparent solution.

do your little bit.... there are more ways of reducing pollution, then creating it...
when each and every one of us does a little bit, it means six billion people are doing some little bit... it would no longer be little bit...

I would strongly recommend watching 'An Inconvenient Truth' the documentary presented by Al Gore...

Although it was more inclined towards the US pollution & Al Gore political stint, it does convey a very useful message in the end

And also wath 'Story of the Stuff'.. a nice little 20 odd minute video

Yes friend i am 100 % agree with you now its too late we have to change ourself first then only we can change the world because a 1 right person make 10 others do right things. We have to make our self environment friendly first, we have to feel the pain of nature then only we can fight for its protection.

Some great points -- yeah, small change in individual's way of looking and doing things will probably make big environmental gains. We should really look at go-green as a real cause for anything that we do; and not merely just for the sake of it. In Asian countries -- Singapore is well ahead in terms of their gov and policymakers decisive stand of incentives for FD investors with green products; and within their public sectors; green is encapsulated in the culture to some degree -- it could be possible due to the small population, small area in a cubicle that everything in it can be controlled --- but the gov has to play the most critical role.

I dont think we will go fast (and in time before disaster happen) if the gov priority on go green is just a PR exercise.

Hi Dear,

You cannot stop all type pollutions at once but you can take corrective and preventive actions to restrict them.

For example do not Honk on roads that will stop noise pollution, save electricty and water etc.

Pollution in our mind is the root of all evils is very rightly said. we can stop it by being spiritual. even western people turn to our spirituality to attain shanti and moksha. after certain time, we think of this world as one and start to consider others as equals and hence we just don't think of ourselves which can help prevent pollution or rather any evil in this world

We are talking about environmental pollution and it will be nice if we focus on that topic only. Friend i am totally agreed with you we must take some steps against our mental pollution we must change our mindset and mentality. In terms of religions every religion teach human to protect nature to be with nature and work for environment but its human who does not use the teachings of their religions also for the noble cause of protecting this planet from ultimate destruction.

Very good thread...
1) Everybody has to realise that its our responsibility to grow plants/trees, as we are consuming(eating, burning etc) it but we don't care about growing it.
2) DO NOT throw the plastic covers/papers on the ground, which would prevent water reaching the ground.

Thanks

is there a public consensus abt how bad shape the environment is now because of pollution? as long as the public doesnt believe green initiatives are good for their daily life, effort to make sure these initiatives are done with good results will not be realized.

one thing which is very basic -- how to make sure people do not pee everywhere or throw rubbish everywhere? is more like social policies / infrastructures rather than directly aksing people to stop whatever they have been doing before. what is gov direction on this?

i agree. yet, pollution is actually already a problem now... there are only so many reach a self-pollution control can do.. the gov, all NGO etc must take drastic actions; to do what have been listed by the many replies here... then there must be a change in the mindset -- how to change? this will take a long time and very difficult; but must start now i.e. environmental subjects in early education at schools etc in all areas; not only urban areas.
