Newspapers v/s Internet..

Earlier people use to only rely on the newspapers for getting acquainted with the news around the world...but with increasing no. of internet users ...Is the Internet becoming a much more popular source of information...

obviously internet is more looked upto these days but the data in news papers are sometimes more reliable than that on the net..for instance we may get certain data on Wikipedia which cannot be relied on bcuz the users edit the data:confused: ,but in newspapers the data can be relied on bcuz they frisk d matter and only then they print it..(THIS CAN'T BE SAID ABOUT TIMES OF INDIA):tape2:

This is completely subjective...people prefer what is convenient to them


India has approximately 5000 newspapers which are subscribed by about 60 million homes...while there are 4 million computers with about 7 million internet users...however internet reach is growing exponentialy in India..so cant realy predict how the future is going to be..


But this is my strong opinion nothing can beat Print media news...the custom is do deeply routed in Indians...this might differ from one country to another.

as far as educated rural India goes..internet has still not reached the remote areas,,,so most of the people are still using the newspapers..
moreover newspaper is in our culture...the morning tea doesn't taste that good if we dont have the newspaper with us...

but the internet is growing too fast,,,with millions of sites..we can access any kind of information any time....
as and when the reach of the internet increases,,it will surely overtake the newspapers..

It is in the back of the mind, that hard copies are good rather than soft copies.
Few days back, I subscribed for Business world subscription, I had option of soft copies and hard copies, but I intended for Hard Copies. Why? Because I will get to recover that much money from raddiwala  Jokes apart!! As rightly mentioned by Kalpana, Traditional way.
I think it is between the size and content. Newspaper are at least 1 – 1.5 ft on an average with multiple pages. I think monitors are 21-inch on an average. Newspaper are lighter on pockets, whereas for internet we have to pay at least Rs10/- for 15-30 minutes.
Advertisements in newspapers are more appealing than on internet. Customer reach also plays important part. Nowadays, we have hi tech mobile phones, where we can access internet. Even normal mobile phones can also access to News Alert facilities. But then, content is less, but get updates very soon. Here, for newspaper we have to wait for another morning to read on the updates, which would be past tense.
I think it will be tough fight ahead for Print vs internet vs News channels.

I prefer newspaper for news coz the more u read the more u get local news. But it is rarely that we find the localised news on websites.

the best part about reading newspaper is the information is concise in the manner that you can qiuckly read what you wished to, you can go in for ET, Mint for financial new, etc.

however on internet lot of time is wasted on finding out the right things.

internet definitely beats newspaper ... you can't do a google or text search on a newspaper and neither can you copy and paste text out into a document like you can with documents off the internet

well internet is more useful than newspapers coz the information we get on any topic is much more than required..ofcourse it also creats confusion whereas newspapers info is limited and only related..
we can surf the internet sitting at one place for all the info necessary whereas newspapers require much physical work.. but on contrast it has its own benifit in rural areas where there is no internet facility.

as i uses internet i may choose internet better thn newspapers coz i can refer to it easily but millions of people wihtout internet facility will prefer newpapers and offcourse one get exclusive news on net but mainly news on newspapers are more trustfulll............

no comparison can be drawn b/w the two & the debate is useless since both have their own niche . none can sustitute the other . yes , it's true internet is an unlimited source of any sort of information availaible in the world but it cant have the sort of peneteration the paper enjoys . as far as daily news & the likes is concerned i would surely prefer a rs 2 paper to net.

Taken your point here Prem..but the other aspect being..that every media has its relative importance.. A whole variety of economic, political and cultural factors determine which media are most important in different regions.Among other things this is generally understood to mean that television plays a dominant role as the medium of information. While this is increasingly true, it is not universally so....so I think its neither of print nor Internet that is effective over Television...janta's perspective???

if u talk about television having to be more effective..the question of reach of television comes up...does the television has its reach in the remote places...if yes...is cable television available there..?? same goes for internet..which have a even lesser reach than tv...
if we talk about reach...newspapers are more effective..
and if we talk about the amount of information..internet is more effective....
