racism(though australia not accepting the fact).....plaguing the entire world n d worst targets r indians....
similar case wid australia Latest available police figures say 1,447 people of Indian origin were robbed or assaulted in Victoria state in 2007-2008, although people from the country say they have risen since then......the latest was the tenth indian student to be assaulted within a space of a month......indians r no longer safe in other parts of the world.....

Yes frens I do belive that australia is no more a safe country for india students ..
The police and admin should come forward to protect the students from India or else as the education industry of australia will also suffer with the indian students...

Me being out of india i know how bad it would be if we are attacked by the residents.....it creates of lot of tension, you get frustrated in the life you cannot even decide to go for an evening walk ,,,you need to be confined to be with in your room ....fear will haunt you every time...people think to go to australia ...it is more safe if you stay back in india and reach great levels in you career.all the best

according to me australia as a country is completly safe to reside in. Its just because of the circumstances that the are going bad. but i strongly feel that once things will get back to normal it'll all become normal again.

No country in this world is safe. Considering what is being done in last decade.. whether it is U.S. or iran or afghanistan or pakistan or india & the list continues...
Australians have racial problems.. their this kinda behavior, forced us to consider Australia as an unsafe country...

Hey guys/girls, as an Aussie I find this latest bout of media sensationalism a little disturbing. Are we a racist country? Overwhelmingly no we are not. Yes there are some pockets of resentment toward others from foreign nations, but show me a country that doesn't have that problem? About 60% of residents in Sydney and Melbourne are 1st or 2nd generation immigrants and on the whole we have a progressive multicultural society that welcomes those from other nations and long may it continue.

i think it is not safe , where people just pick on you because of your color of skin or hair color, or the way you talk, although ironically in india there is a reverse racism wherein there are incidents of foreigners being ill treated and harrassed, but in australia where a large community of indian students study , it is imperative that people are getting frustrated because of the recessionary conditions, job losses and they are all blaming it on the outsiders indians, care also goes to the parents who take big loans or mortgage property for financing the child's education and then end up learning the attacks on them..
in the end, i think it is bad for australia itself as it image is getting spolied which will lead to less tourism, students next year and also trade.

i think most of the thing thats being said about australians is a creation of our media and its far from reality. i have my friends and relatives in australia, what they say is that Australia is the least racist country and they have never seen such a behaviour from australians.
so this means that the indian media is utilising this oppurtunity just for increasding their readership, nothing else........

I don't think the recession has anything to do with (in any case Australia is not in recession, we just posted a 0.4% growth period for the last quarter, not that I place too much faith in 1 set of statistics).
Also, mainly the attacks have come not from 'white' Australians but from Asian, Middle Eastern, Aboriginal and Pacific Islanders. I doubt the Indian media has pointed this out, please correct me if I'm wrong there. I hate to say it but most violent street crime in Sydney and Melbourne doesn't come from whites. Unfortunately that is the reality.
The other issue probably not covered in the media, is where the attacks have occurred. All big cities have areas that are safe, and not so safe. Students without the aid of parents and/or extended family tend to live in low cost areas that aren't particularly safe at the best of times. That's the way it is. I'm one of them.
Compared to the countries with similarly large multi-ethnic communities such as the USA, UK and France, Australia is a beacon of piece and serenity. There seems to exists a certain amount of 'anti-Australianism' by some in the Indian community which I guess is the result of poor relations between our cricket teams. I can't see what else is the cause?? On that score I think both parties should be disappointed in the way they have conducted themselves.
vssree994 has it spot on.

The government invites people from abroad to study and work in Australia...
But it is the natives that are feeling the pinch since their jobs and seats of learning are occupied by outsiders... This is but natural of any body who would not want to give their jobs to others because they should be given preference...

Savio:
I'll assume by 'natives' you don't mean Indigenous or Aboriginal Australians.......
As I mentioned in an earlier post 60% of people in Sydney and Melbourne are 1st or 2nd generation immigrants. So if by 'native' you mean stereotypical white bronzed Aussies, they are in the minority. As I also mentioned earlier, these attacks on the whole are being carried out by ethnic minorities, mainly Lebanese and Pacific Islander groups as well as a relatively small minority of whites as well. I'm not being racist here, they are the facts.
Prior to the financial crisis we had unemployment of 3.9% and now it is just over 5%, the USA, Europe and Japan could be so lucky......We as a nation are not losing large amounts of jobs to 'foreigners' coming here and there has been not one report of any such feeling in the community. I have know idea where you are getting that impression from.
The only thing that did create some tension (from the Union movement and not violent at all) was a decision by Pacific Brands to close down a clothes manufacturing facility and move it to China. Good!!! China has a comparative advantage in cheap labour and I don't want to pay $15 for a pair of socks just because they're 'Australian made.'
Every Australian university student knows that international students paying much higher fees than us, subsidize the system and that is a good thing. They do not 'occupy' seats domestic students would otherwise take, you are simply wrong on that point. Universities must fill a minimum quota of domestic places before they can offer international students a place at their university. You clearly do not understand our system at all and should do so before making misinformed comments like that.
New Australians and foreign visitors, such as students, add much to our culture and the economy and whilst a small percentage of people don't like that, the overwhelming majority do.
Don't believe what you read in the media, I never do, I consult widely and form my own opinion. The media in India need a reality check and should stop peddling the nonsense they appear to be doing.
