For the first time in India’s history, around 35 top American Universities will be visiting India for collaborations with Indian institutions and organizations. They will be participating in the Indo-American Education Summit on academic collaborations scheduled to be held during November 2009 in New Delhi, Hyderabad, and Bangalore. The Summit will be held in Delhi on November 8, 2009 at India Habitat Centre, Lodhi Road..

The Indo-American Education Summit is a unique event which is being held in India for the first time. The Summit will be attended by University Provosts, Deans, and other officers of around 35 American Universities. Several hundred Indian Institutions and Organizations interested in collaborations are expected to participate in the Summit. It is recognized by all that collaborative research programs, graduate and post-graduate programs, twinning / transfer programs, certificate programs, distance education programs, faculty & student exchange programs, study abroad in India programs, and other academic partnerships between Indian Institutions and American Universities are extremely useful in meeting the rapidly growing educational needs in India.

Research Collaborations: Some of the World’s leading research universities that will be participating in the Summit are Tufts, Case Western, Northeastern, Florida State, Southern Illinois-Carbondale, Clarkson, Concordia (Canada), Drexel, Temple, Oregon, Rochester, Massachusetts-Boston, South Dakota Tech, Wisconsin, and Widener. Their areas of interest for research collaboration cover a wide range including Science, Engineering, Medicine, Biotechnology, Environment, Management, and the Arts. Degree, Diploma, and Certificate Programs: There are more than 600 major fields of study in the U.S. at various levels - Associate's (2 years), Bachelor's (4 years), Master's (2 years), and Doctoral/Ph.D. (3 to 5 years). The on-campus programs to be offered in India by American universities in collaboration with Indian institutions would be degree, diploma, and certificate programs at all levels. Certificate programs include corporate training programs, executive development programs, and management development programs. Students will receive degrees of the American Universities after successful completion of the programs in India. A few of the fields of interest for visiting American Universities are: Science, Technology, Engineering, Business Administration and Management, Hospitality Management, Executive Education, Medicine and Health Sciences, Psychology, Fine Arts, and Law.

Twinning / Transfer programs: Through these programs, Indian students will be able to earn several credits during the course of their normal study in Indian institutions. Students will have the opportunity either to complete their studies in India or to transfer their credits to the American universities at any time after completing at least one year of their studies in Indian institutions. Students, who opt for transfer, can then finish their degree programs by completing the remainder of credits in residence at the American universities. Foreign-bound Indian students will save substantial cost of studying abroad. Further, students will have wide range of subjects to choose from in the American Universities, apart from the opportunity to learn in two different cultural environments, and thus becoming well-rounded learners.

Distance Education Programs: The programs to be offered in India by American Universities in collaboration with Indian institutions would be graduate and post-graduate degree, diploma, and certificate programs. Students will receive degrees, diplomas, and certificates from the concerned American universities after successful completion of the programs in India.

Partnership Programs: Partnerships between Indian institutions and the American universities will be arranged so that Indian students who complete 12th standard or graduate programs in India would be admitted to graduate and post-graduate programs of the American Universities automatically. Partnership programs with American universities are important mechanisms that enhance access of Indian students to graduate programs of the American universities. Students will be spared the stress of having to prepare for the highly competitive entrance examinations in India, with the knowledge that their admission in American universities is assured.

Study Abroad in India Programs: Students of American Universities are interested in studying in high quality Indian institutions. Studying abroad in India for a semester or year will give students a fresh perspective on themselves, India, the USA, and the world. Studying abroad in India will expose them to diverse people and viewpoints, and they will get to experience a different way of life apart from their own in the USA. While studying in India, they will also earn credit towards their current degree.

Mr. S.B.Anumolu, 63, is the President of the Indus Foundation, New Jersey, which was founded in 1995. Mr. Anumolu obtained his Master’s degree from the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIM-B). Mr. Anumolu was a member of the Indian Police Service (IPS) for 18 years before leaving Government service for the private sector. While in India, he led several business delegations to the USA, Canada, Japan, the United Arab Emirates, and other Gulf countries.
