The supply chain management that are having linkage, both upstream and downstream, in different process and activities that produce and deliver the value in the form of products and services in the hands of customer.

Example: - A shirt manufacturer is a part of supply chain that extends upstream through the weavers of fabrics to the spinners and the manufactures of fibers, downstream through distribution and retailers to the final consumers.

Though each of these organizations are dependent on each other yet traditionally do not closely co-operate with each other.

Supply Chain Management at Material Level

Supply Chain Management at Human Level

“Entity of people organized as structures and systems for delivering the desired value of goods.”

Supply Chain Management can also be defined as “The integrated management of all linkages and value added activities from the suppliers to the customers, customer in such a way that enhanced customer value is achieved at lower cost.”

Also Martin Christopher has defined Supply Chain Management as “The management of upstream and downstream relationships with suppliers and customers to deliver superior customer value at less cost to the supply chain as a whole.”
