Hello folks!!!!!:SugarwareZ-216:

Here is the forum that is aimed @ giving you something new to chew on every day.....
I assure you a whole lot of interesting case studies every day to give your brains some good deal a work out.

So lets get the ball rolling.

Check out the case study of the day: Frooti Relaunch campaign

Questions for the discussion are:

1) Has anyone else in the past used the campaign like "Digen Verma: the common man" without disclosing the name of the brand for the relaunch?

2) Is the brand Frooti being stormed by Cola giants with their own versions of mango drink like "Maaza" & "Slice"?

Case study of the day 17/02/2010: Xerox A classic brand Extension Failure

Hello People!!!

I am back with another case for discussion
Here is the case of the day!

Xerox is one of the branding success stories of the 20th century. As with many other similar successes, the company didn’t just create a product, it invented a whole new category. Indeed, such is
Xerox’s achievement that its brand name has become a part of everyday speech. In the United States, xerox is a verb, used when people are copying paperXerox is one of the branding success stories of the 20th century. As with many other similar successes, the company didn’t just create a product, it invented a whole new category. Indeed, such is

Questions for todays discussion are:

Xerox became the brand that was even bigger than product itself & is used by most of us as a replacement for the word "Photocopy". Have you come across any such brands that have gone on to become bigger than the product itself?

Should the company get into an unchartered territory based on its success in its existing business or should it stick to its core competency?

Case study of the day

This initiative is an attempt to put forward the best of professional cases and open a forum for healthy deabates. This can be used as a resource for all us who need examples and stories to inspire ourselves, inspire our coworkers, inspire our clients, write books with or think with.

Starting with it I would be sharing a case study based on day-to-day matters on a daily basis which certainly will server as Food for Thought. I would be glad to have your participation over these cases. The idea is simple to accumulate knowledge and share it, to get opinions, to get opinions to challenge the existing ones and to be an agent in provoking the learned minds to implement and test what good bad or ugly did … the real people in real scenarios did.

How did the channel achieve all that it has. What were the branding strategies…how was Discovery as a product commercialized…how the promotion activities were coordinated…the concept of Guerilla marketing.

For the entire case refer to : Branding Discovery Channel

What are the things that as a viewer you like about Discovery Channel
• The programs with their knowledge depth and coverage
• The non-fiction or the realistic nature of the channel
• Esp. for Discovery India – good standard of dubbing (Hindi voice over)
…..and so on

Case study of the day: Pepsi Crystal

In 1992 Pepsi spotted what it considered to be a void in the market. According to the company -- What the world was waiting for, was a clear cola. After all, there had already been a variety of diet colas, cherry colas, sugar-free colas, caffeine-free colas, caffeine-enhanced colas, and all had achieved at least some form of success. So why not a clear cola?

But how did such a big player miss out some of the very basic and underlying business points. This mistake turned out to be one of biggest blunders made by a top brand.

For the entire case refer to : Pepsi Crystal A Classic brand failure

 What according to you were the key mistakes done by Pepsi
 Is re-launch of a failed product really bad…what can make it successful

Case of the day: Dell Web PC: A technical failure

In late 1999, computer manufacturer Dell launched the Web PC. The computer was small (a mere ten inches in height) and came in five different colours. The aim of the computer was to simplify the experience of surfing the Internet, while at the same time being attractive. ‘The quality of the customer’s experience will be the defining source of loyalty in the Internet era,’ Michael Dell told the press at the time. ‘The Web PC is breaking new ground for our industry as we take our one-on-one relationships with customers to a new level of helpfulness.’

Case of the day: Kellog's Rebranding

Case of the day: Kellog's Rebranding

When Kellogg’s Corn Flakes were launched in the UK in the early 1920’s the company faced a formidable task of persuading a sceptical nation, accustomed to porridge and bacon and eggs, to try a brand new breakfast food. What followed was one of the most remarkable marketing achievements of the 20th Century. Kellogg used a team of dedicated salesmen who employed armies of casual labourers and Boy Scouts to cover the country, to knock on doors and literally give away millions of sample packets of Corn Flakes and Rice Krispies. The free samples encouraged consumers to buy the products and within ten years Kellogg’s had revolutionised the eating habits of a nation.

Rebranding of an established brand is the real challenging stuff especially because it may go either ways. Whats your take on it.

Awaiting responses from you guys....

Lets have some real healthy & fruitful discussion.

A diamond may be forever, as De Beers’ famous advertising slogan contends, but is the same true of a business model? That was the question facing Gareth Penny, managing director of De Beers, in the late 19’90s, when the famed diamond cartel found itself beset by a series of events that ultimately forced it to examine and then retool its business strategy

De Beers' Strategic shift

A real nice case on strategic decision making

Case of the day: Land Rover's Focussed Ad Campaign

When Land Rover discovered that new buyers of the Range Rover vehicle were eligible to receive tax breaks if they were using it for business purposes, they decided to capitalize on the opportunity to spark sales and carry the message to consumers who could benefit most. They decided to expand their online branding efforts to include non-automotive Web sites for this particular message.
The targeting precision of online advertising allowed them to specifically reach entrepreneurs and small business owners who could most benefit from this tax break. The ad campaign for Range Rover primarily targeted small business owners to educate them about the business tax breaks.
