Ten common interview questions

Remember the boy-scout motto 'Be Prepared'? Lord Baden-Powell's exhortation holds good for every
job-seeker too. In helping you be up to scratch on D-Day, here are ten of the most common
interview questions and the tips to be kept in mind while answering them. Be prepared, folks!

1. Tell us something about yourself. While answering this question, highlight your strengths and
describe your achievements. You can describe your academic career and end with your work
experience.
2. Academic performance is another subject that is bound to crop up. The interviewer is looking
for a trend and consistency in your academic track record.
3. Tell us about your extra-curricular achievements. The interviewer will try to ascertain if you
have been involved in activities other than academic ones.
4. Describe your strengths and weakness. This helps the interviewer assess how deeply you have
analysed yourself.
5. What's your general awareness like? The interviewer hopes to have an idea of your knowledge
about things happening around the world.
6. Have you planned your career? Here the interviewer tries to gauge if you have a vision and are
working towards achieving it.
7. What's your work experience? A large part of the interview may be focused on this section with
the interviewer trying to assess how much knowledge the aspirant has of the various facets of his
job and the lessons he learnt at his previous workplaces.
8. What do you know about the organisation you're hoping to join, job profile, industry trends
and competition?
9. What is your ultimate career goal and are you clear about your objectives?
10. To what length would you go to achieve your goal?
