Eastern & Southern African Management Institute (ESAMI)
The Eastern and Southern African Management Institute (ESAMI) is a Pan African Regional Management Development Centre. It is a service and market-oriented institution offering high level specialized management training and development programme, consultancy and action-oriented management research services. ESAMI’s target clients are government, NGOs, parastatals, private sector and national training institutions in the Eastern and Southern African region.
Increasingly, ESAMI continues to attract clients from West Africa especially Ghana, Nigeria, Gambia, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Cameroon. Participants from Asia, notably Bangladesh, India and Pakistan have also patronised our programmes. ESAMI is a leader in the industry in Sub-Saharan Africa.
In may, 1997 the UN Economic Commission for Africa officially designated ESAMI as ‘The African Centre of Excellence in Management Development". With this recognition and enhanced mandate, fresh challenges were posed to the Institute. To meet Africa’s management challenge ESAMI continues to provide high quality, client centered management training, consultancy and research for clients from all over Africa.

Since its establishment in 1980, ESAMI's performance record in all the three areas (training, consultancy and research) has expanded to meet the needs of the institutions served in the region. For example, to date, over 30,000 middle and top level personnel in the government, parastatal, NGOs and private sector organisations have attended management development programmes offered by the Institute. In addition, these managers/executives have been provided with opportunities to widen their horizons, improve executive skills and to understand management as a process of balanced judgement. The aim has always been to keep African Managers up-to-date with modern management thinking and at the same time enable them to take stock and examine their managerial or administrative responsibilities in the context of today's dynamic environment.
The fact that every year, ESAMI attracts more participants attests to the quality and uniqueness of its product offerings. Its training programmes are research-based and usually use computer-aided training techniques. In addition, these programmes are directly relevant to the African environment and are offered by indigenous, highly qualified professional staff with broad functional diversity, all of whom have distinguished themselves in government, industry or academic institutions. Thus, these programmes are practical in orientation and address identified needs and priorities of African countries in the quest for development.
