Hi friends

I am just about to finish my MBA prog. from ICFAI Hyderabad. Prior to MBA i worked with an organization for 1 year.

In all these days of MBA , i personally felt that MBA would add more value and would prove to be more helpful for those who have previously worked somewhere.A person with a relevant work ex , knows things like :- industry structure, code of conduct, accepted norms, current trends e.t.c , which a fresher lacks.
This trend is prevalent in all the foreign universities and few Indian colleges like ISB Hyderabad have put in practice.

On top of that a person with a work -ex would definitely add value to class room discussion by sharing his experience and would help in generating a positive thought process.Such people would be able to practically relate theories with industrial practices.

I feel that minimum 2 years of work ex should be made mandatory for all the management exams

WHATS UR TAKE ON THAT ???

It is better to have prior work experience in my opinion. Afterall, no matter the theory we learn in school, we need to validate it at the workplace. If you are a professor of management and you have never really worked in business, your students in an MBA class for instance with work experience will often see you as a theorising and idealistic lecturer whose ideas are not likely to be practicable. Similarly an experienced MBA student can easily see the weakness or strength of an idea from the viewpoint of practicability on the shopfloor.

Afterall, there is usually a difference between what we expect people to do and what they actually do. An experienced person can easily apreciate this.

work experience is more preferred by almost all d institutes. It is helping ppl to understand better but dat doesnt mean ppl who r understanding it later shud not b preferred. After graduation a person spends 2-3 yrs in work exp n den 2 yrs mba(all approx) den gets to understand wat he was doing still den. A fresher does mba down d line in abt 1 more yr gets to hav equal knowledge. i dont think der is harm in dat in dis fast paced life.On d other hand d mba institutes' authorities select a fresher only after de r convinced abt his or her potentials.

Hi guys,
I believe MBA should only be allowed after 3-5 years of experience. Once one is exposed to the real world the Horizon broadens up. I think MBA helps one to become even better manager coz for 2-3 years we are constantly bombarded with thoughts about how a business can & should be run efficiently and our mind is like any other muscle in our body. We keep giving it same sort of stimulus and it gets developed due to regular exercise. Since we keep thinking about Business all the time therefore we are bound to get better as a manager. Its not class room learning that is going to make one a better manager. It’s the quality of discussions which is by the contribution of an MBA class. It’s the knowledge we all bring in with our experiences in different sectors and may be different regions of the country or may be different parts of the world. Though I m not one who would associate intellect with age but in 2-3 years of exposure in any industry enhances the maturity level as well. This time frame is necessary to bridge the gap between a fresher & a perspective manager who is going to be responsible for the future of a company.

hi guys,

what i believe is that a 2 yrs work exp can also help you understand in what sector you want to specialise in. When u work u get to know a particular sector and then u can decide whether u want to carry on in the same feild or not.
Also, a person with relevant work exp can relate his classroom learnings with the industry practices.

Doing an MBA will be more beneficial only after having some work exp. ~3/4 yrs. Only then we actually can define the problem properly, which we seek to have a solution thru MBA. Work exp will give a real pic of the world to the us and then we can truly equate to the solution too!

if i myself do not knw what are the impacts of a badly planned project how will i know if the planning is actually good or not!

when you start working you get used to lead an independent life financially so it gets difficult for an individual to quit and then study.
and ones you are in work it gets difficult to manage time for studing

i would suggest you,
better take a year or so experience and then study the funda's of management,

the benefit would be three times.

1) in the college you would have an upper hand over others to understand and relate to the gyaan of the professors and also always have an experience to share to your friends and class.

2) during placement, you changes of getting picked at a premium is higher

3) you would be able to handle much more than expected form you as your first job after management as you have a prior experience

Who the hell said Life is easy. There aint and cant be any shortcut to success. With experience one is exposed to different situations. Through exposure, one is matures. Work experience is must.

Hi friends,

I definitely think that doing MBA with some prior work experience is definitely helpful. There is a lot of difference between the world of theory and the world of reality. Most academic institutions (despite their est efforts) end up teaching more thory than reality. A previous exposure to teh workplace orients a would be MBA aspirant to everyday practical realities of getting things done at the work place and the nitty gritties involved in it. Unless one gets one's hands dirty one really does not learn much. And it is with this background only that one comes to appreciate stuff that goes into MBA curriculum and the need for these topics. SO if one is interested in getting the most out of one's MBA , having prior work experience definitely provides a head-start.

Thanks.

I have taken classes with students with no work experience and those with work experience.

For students with no work experience, an MBA gives you book insight, it makes things clearer, helps you learn how to put presentations together and gets you up in front of an audience. So if you go straight through you come out with advantages over a BS or BA. But someone with 5-10-15 yrs of work experience has a significant advantage over what they learn. But at the end of the day it is networking, who you know and what you seek that will make a difference in your career. You can do an MBA at Harvard and if you cannot speak with people end up unemployed or do an MBA in India, know the right people, find a great opportunity and do wonderful in your career and life.

Doing MBA with experience is better than doing MBA as a fresher because with prior industry experience helps you to understand management subjects better.
