 A Journey to a New Beginning….

4 destinations

2 months

1 unforgettable experience.

The summers were like never before. I did my internship from TCS in CSR department. My project was Affirmative Action. TCS saw the need of making people employable in various underprivileged areas of the country. TCS decided to reach out to people through this Employability training. I consider myself fortunate to have received an opportunity to work as a trainer with them. It was an amazing experience.

“If you give a person fish he will not stay hungry for one day, but if you teach him fishing he will not stay hungry for the rest of his life.”

For the first time in my life I had to travel alone to a new city. I conducted my first training at Nagpur in the month of scorching heat of May. The temperature was almost 48c but my excitement level was equally high. Fortunately/unfortunately my senior was not able to make it for the training & that's why I got the opportunity to conduct the entire 100 hours training for 15 days all by myself. It was a great learning experience. I trained the students in English, public speaking, interview skills etc. While I was helping them grow I was growing myself.

I also attended a training for trainers at Pune. There I had the privilege of meeting people from different fields but wanting to serve for one cause: Social service. It was a wonderful experience to meet people with more than 25 years of experience and listening to their words of wisdom.

The next destination was Mumbai itself. Training a batch full of girls at SNDT Juhu was a totally different experience. Training candidates who are at par and already good at communication was completely different than the training at Nagpur. It was a great learning experience. Every training is different. At SNDT thus I had to introduce lot of confidence building activities, analytical skills based games extempore etc. Few students were so dedicated that they used to travel for 6 hours to attend this training. They inspired me to put in extra efforts.

The next destination was one which I had hardly heard of: Tuljapur. It was a residential training at TISS campus. Since it was a residential training I had to stay with them at the guest house. 24*7 I and another trainer had to train them. There were around 90 candidates. Almost all of them were from rural backgrounds. Some of the students were extremely hardworking & dedicated. When I heard their stories I was moved. They had seen so much struggle in their life at such a young age. They were fighters. Most of the female candidates had to fight with their parents and community just to get permission to attend this training. One of the candidate had fought with his parents and left his house with just the clothes he was wearing to attend this training. Candidates used to walk for miles & sit for hours together to learn to improve to make a better future. So much to learn from them.

This summer internship gave me much more than just a work experience. It taught me how to live my life & how to look at my life. It made me realize how grateful I should be for all that I have in my life. It made me realize that so many people out there need more and more such trainings. There is so much to do for this society & I am happy to do my small bit for it. It was not just a “job” for me it gave me happiness, so many new friends, learnings and of course priceless memories. It has changed the way I look at myself. That's why I call it as a
