Tata Motors Global HR Head pays MICA a visit
July 20, 2012
Mudra Institute of Communications, Ahmedabad
Mr. Prabir Jha, Senior Vice President and head of HR, Tata Motors visited Mudra Institute of Communications, Ahmedabad (MICA) on 20th July, 2012 to deliver a guest lecture to 2nd year students.
Mr. Jha, who joined Tata Motors 2 years ago and brings to the table immense industry experience, including 10 years as a civil servant; took an informal approach in talking to the students, minus any Powerpoint presentations and videos. He debunked several myths about what it takes to succeed in your chosen career. He talked about drawing a fine balance between experimentation and being sure of what we as aspiring professionals truly want instead of blindly following the herd. The most successful career is one that is designed deliberately and consciously and not on assumptions about interests, careers and passions. Mr. Jha also introduced to the students a very interesting concept of recognising one's own personal brand and how all thoughts and actions should seek to reinforce that brand and build a reputation around it.
His most emphatic advice to everyone was to become a people's person, a leader and team player and to think two levels above of one's current position. His enlightening talk was followed by an open house session, wherein students asked varied questions ranging from managing work-life balance, the alleged glass ceiling for women in corporate life, the Nano success story to the skills and competencies needed to survive and prosper in today's business environment. Mr. Jha won over the students with his articulate and sound opinions and received a standing ovation at the end of the lecture.
