Regional Centre, Noida came into existence in the year 2009. The need for having a new regional centre in the NCR was felt in view of growing popularity of various programmes offered by Indira Gandhi National open University and thereby rising enrolment in RC Delhi-2. In this backdrop four districts namely: Gautam Budh Nagar (Noida- Greater Noida), Ghaziabad, Meerut & Baghpat of Western UP was carved out of RC Delhi -2 and thus RC Noida Came into being.
Primarily Noida was established as an Industrial township but subsequently in view of better infrastructural facilities, its proximity with Delhi, better transport facilities and metro rail connectivity; it has emerged as one of the most sought after residential destination in the NCR. Consequently the population of Noida and Greater Noida is cosmopolitan in nature, which has attracted various prominent educational, management and technical institutions to establish their campuses in this area. Despite presence of large number of technical and professional institutions, the rural population of adjoining districts consisting of numerically preponderant women, agricultural workers and backward sections of the society, who have hitherto not been able to reach the temples of conventional higher learning, are still deprived of quality higher education. The rising cost of higher education has also been a prohibitive factor in this regard.
By establishing a new regional centre in Noida, Indira Gandhi National Open University has taken a step forward towards reaching the unreached by providing sustainable and affordable high quality programmes and courses across disciplines and at a variety of levels to meet the life-long education, training, capacity building and public services need of anyone anytime anywhere. Almost all academic programmes are activated in different LSC's and PSC's falling under the jurisdiction of the RC. Learners are advised to visit RC website for latest updates. Alternatively they may also visit RC office for information/assistance.
