How to Prepare for MBA Entrance Exams and CAT?

Preparation for the MBA entrance exam cannot be done overnight! If you are a person with a keen analytical mind, dedication and one who does systematic planning and preparation, you are indeed the one who will be successful with the MBA entrance exam. It is mostly the best of the talent that take up MBA entrance exams and they come from all disciplines. Some of the syllabi are common and is in the form of quantitative aptitude tests, reasoning, comprehension, case analysis, synonyms, etc. To prepare accurately and to the point, one should refer last year's question papers for the type of questions that one will be presented in an MBA entrance exam.

 

It is necessary for a candidate attending an MBA entrance exam to be well versed with the quantitative aptitude tests. Solving arithmetic and accounting problems are very scoring and one can hope to score even 100 percent marks. To prepare for this section of tests, you need to practice solving a lot of logical problems. The first section may consist of logical problems like profit and loss, percentages, averages, ratios etc. It can be time consuming to do all the calculations. So there is a need to practice. You need to be adept at solving decimal problems and save time in the test papers. Some other questions may feature that test the common sense. Next is the logical reasoning section of the MBA entrance exam. These questions are in different types and forms. Mostly a multiple choice section most of these questions test the common sense and reasoning sense. Then again a lot of practice will make your day. Sometimes there are questions related to the distance travelled in different directions. Practicing these types of questions is going to help sharpen your wits.

 

Then there is a section on comprehension which is aimed at gauging your aptitude with the English grammar and language. Mostly, a paragraph of text is given which is required to be thoroughly read and then you are required to answer questions based on the text. To attempt these questions with speed and accuracy, you need to practice your grammar and also attempt as many comprehension tests as possible.

 

The other test is of general awareness which tests your general knowledge. The questions can be answered with practice and widespread reading of general knowledge books. There are many questions and information on the ‘Competition Master'. It is important to learn polity and other factual general knowledge which will help you prepare for the test.

 

Other sections deal with word power, case analysis and word relationships which also require careful preparation. Some universities have group discussions and interviews as part of their test. Here the judgment is on your ability to reason and your leadership qualities. Also you are judged for your suitability to perform in the program and how well you can express your answers as well as your quality of judgment. Your performance is judged on the basis of your interests and accomplishments in the fields of co-curricular activities.
