On the 12th of September 2011, JBIMS hosted Mr. L. S. Narayanswami, Associate Director, Strategic Initiatives, Standard Chartered Bank and Alumnus from the Batch of 1999, for a guest lecture for the Batch of 2013. The students were very excited to have such an eminent personality from the industry address them and share his wealth of experiences. He spoke on topics ranging from his life at JBIMS, his stint as an entrepreneur to his tenure at Standard Chartered Bank, and shared his success mantras with the batch.
Talking about qualities essential for succeeding in life, he said that confidence, clarity of thought, and having the right attitude were of utmost importance. Emphasizing the importance of hard work he said, “Nothing works like work, especially in the early part of one's life”. He also suggested, “Attitude is good; Attitude problem is not”.
It was interesting for the students to know that after an eight year stint at banking; he had worked for a couple of years on his own entrepreneurial venture. He said “Entrepreneurship is a fabulous thing to explore at some point in life”. It was not the money but the ability to create something new that was the key driver for him. He also expressed that there is no concept of a work-life balance in an entrepreneur's life, but the experience is “priceless”.
He urged the students to pursue their hobbies as it gives one a fresh perspective on life. He advised the class, “Life will take turns, which you never thought of. Life will offer you opportunities which some of you will grab and some of you may not. But the key is to not get stressed.”
Reminiscing his days at JBIMS he shared a few light hearted memories such as the frequent use of acronyms like “DAGMA - Desperate Attention Grabbing Measures and Actions”. He concluded this passionate and motivating lecture by urging the JBites to continue the legacy and ‘Keep the Bajaj flag flying high'.
